The Blend
This is a single-origin blend, comprising coffee beans from the canton of Grecia in Costa Rica's Alajuela province, in the West Valley Region.
The two varieties of beans used are H1, aptly known as "Centroamericano" from La Alquimia Farm; and SL28, also known as the Kenya varietal from where the SL28 bean first originated from, and these beans come from El Venado Farm. Both beans are white-honey processed.
Why Las Hermanas Ticas
Las Hermanas is Spanish for "The Sisters" and "Ticos" and "Ticas" is what Costa Ricans refer to themselves as. I named this blend Las Hermanas Ticas, the Costa Rican sisters, and the beans come from two practically adjoining farms owned by two sisters who share the same mill, the Cerro San Luis Micromill.
The Beans and the Source
Cerro San Luis Micromill is a family business run by two sisters and their families, who own and operate both farms and a small coffee mill.
Both farms are at an altitude of 1300-1600 metres above sea level.
I have roasted these to medium dark, and I believe they give off a robust, smokey, chocolatey aroma, but that's just me.
